Yeah, most mages on Earth don’t construct spells, much less include a type of magic they have no idea how to replicate.

Ah that explains it Kate took divine metamagic feats.
on the other hand, she does make “dead” orichalcum as part of her day job
Inari: You realize you actually write your spells to purpose instead of playing Tetris with the spells you already know, right?
Kate: Huh, well I kinda cheat with divine energy as a “fuel additive”…
Phil: Randomly pops up with a copy of the D&D 3rd edition epic level handbook “You cast with spell seeds!!”
Yuki: “So in addition to Crystal Spheres and Mythals we have spell crafting concepts as well? Do these Dungeons and Dragons books just have answers to everything?”
Phil: “Yes!!”
As soon as Inari started breaking down how Kate casts spells it just made me thing of the epic level spell crafting from D&D 3rd edition where you pick a spell seed for a school and then shape the effect with modifiers. They required a spellcraft check to design and cast but were less resource intensive than the regular Vancian style of 1st-9th level spells so it feels like an appropriate comparison, or at least one that Phil would make.
At this point I’m beginning to wonder if Yuki is just going to get the residents of the apartment building security clearance and then be like “Here’s the problems we’ve been struggling with for millenia, have any ideas to fix them?” because that one domicile has WAY more competence in dealing with world altering occurrences than some governments at this point.
“Ooh, radiant!” 😻
Sounds like Kate may be able to teach Inari a thing or two about spell crafting. Maybe we will see them follow Kate and Phil home.
Kate knows the magical kio-ken. Everyone goes, “radiance what?” And she obliterates them.
