That’s a lie, and you know it! They have both succeeded at fooling themselves, and each other. They aren’t fooling anyone who isn’t also partially suffering from denial, though.
Phil wouldn’t risk upsetting Kate, and I suspect he’s the type who is only comfortable flirting with Yuki in front of Kate, even with his self-denial of him flirting with Yuki. That said, he’s also the type who would have realised that he was flirting with Yuki if the possibility ever came to mind or was raised and he was given a few hours to think about it.
Yuki is old enough that she’d be unlikely to want to disrupt their relationship for the sake of “fun”, particularly because everything about their relationship is currently beneficial for her.
That said, I can see a situation where Phil (intellectually) & Yuki (potentially half-knowingly) flirted purely in front of Kate with the hope that she’ll find their dynamic cute and add Yuki to the Harem.
Given these two don’t realize what they’re doing is potentially a problem, they really need to sit down together and decide if flirting is fine—even before considering Yuki in their relationship. Being polyam is all about communication.
Not generally. Not every polyam relationship is a “everyone in bed with everyone” thing. From comets to Vs and satellites—sometimes more beds is the right way to go.
And that doesn’t even take into account asexual romantic partners in the relationships.

Nnnnnoope I hate it. They are enjoying teasing each other but I hate the trope that any playful banter is flirting. Like if Phil could have a similar banter with Tom or Shiden and it wouldn’t be called flirting. Flirting has intent :p
