I get that the girls are already many steps ahead of any current automated driving / flying systems, but I can still see it being more reassuring knowing there is a physical body present in case something happens.
Or at the very least for a legal stand point.

FTR flight are controlled by AI.
They get flagged? For what? Extremely reliable and skilled women pilots? Computer-controlled planes that are far and away better than the current generation aircraft? Methinks the FAA is jealous.
To be fair, they did have a flying battleship with a giant magic railgun, and didn’t tell anybody.
So probably a not unjustified amount of fear as well.
