Really the fact that Lilith is visualizing at all is a good first step for a new player, especially a combat oriented one. I still sometimes find myself detached from everything going on and seeing the system and numbers, not the characters and fiction.

No, its the dm being merciful. Each turn isn’t instant, her cast is a single action, but it does take a few seconds, a turn is generally considered be over the course of 6 seconds. As they held their action they are able to jump in and interrupt at a moments notice, in ghis case as she readies her spell.
