Aww, I really wanted to like the dragon, but being this much of an a**hat is costing them frenship points.

In their defense, they’re understandably terrified by the Null. Even if they do not consciously realize it, they’re acting as a threatened animal, seeing the Null as their predator, which it pretty much is. Not that their attempts at getting rid of the threat would avail to anything, besides putting them on both Phil’s and the Japanese agent’s sh*t lists.

From their perspective, Phil is an eldritch horror that crawled from some dark void somewhere. He shouldn’t exist, and the fact that he does poses a very serious threat to any magical entity in the world. So it makes sense that a guardian entity (even localized like it is) would be terrified on the Null, since Phil has the potential to then erase the dragon with a thought. I cannot fault it for wanting Phil destroyed.
That said, Phil is luckily a good person, so it does come across as an ill-intended dragon spirit.

Hey, suijin. There was this group of uptight monks out in space who had a whole mantra about how giving in to fear is the first step on the path to the Dark Side. Turns out that was one thing they got right, but they didn’t learn their own lesson. How about you give it a go?

I mean, there is no malicious here. It doesn’t know what Phil is, but it can tell he can erase existences. As far as he knows Phil is some walking calamity. I am also willing to bet it thinks far fewer will be on the ship, like it may think they are talking a some rather old ships. But its thinking greater good. Brutal but vs a threat like Phil its really not overreacting. It doesn’t just want Phil away from it, but away from everyone. It is in fact looking out for everyone it can.

Err, why does the office suddenly know English in the last panel? The suijin was having to be an impromptu translator before.

That’s the Specialist, the officer is not on screen. There are other officers besides the one that showed up much like how in major events you don’t send a single cop to deal with something dangerous, it’s usually a pair or more. In this case- you can expect 10-20 or even more to keep people from going into the area. As for how to tell which one- the one that calls out to you in English would be the one to approach XD.

Y’all have to look at it from the Suijin’s PoV. A terrifyingly powerful, god-level monster MASQUERADING AS A HUMAN is just wandering around Japan being disruptive. The Suijin probably sees himself as kind of a local protector and this “Thing that goes Bump in the Night” is right there.

Yeah- from the Suijin’s POV he just said “Wth is that and – how can he see me? Wait- what is up with him? Oh- he dispelled my invisibility – wait how? When?! How did I not notice?! This is just some guy! Im gonna curse him a little- weird- it didnt work- wait- what is this- what the hell is this?! WHATS GOING ON?! This isnt a person! WTH IS THIS?!”
