Inari enjoys their ability to be whatever they want to be- so their “True form” that should be visible through their magic, doesn’t exist as a single form. Leaving Inari looking like a constantly shifting person… Also as some of you already expected, his clothes are made with illusion magic as most shifters use, which Phil just sees through.

The pros and cons of the power of the Null. 😅
I thought Phil saw illusionary clothes as sheer or transparent, at least when Michelle was modeling clothes he commented on that. It might depend on the person and situation though, since the Null powers have shown to be adaptive.
The clothes might only be illusioned onto their current form so every other of their forms would be naked.
I didn’t think I would ever have to explain this XD… but… If you get transparent clothes and wear them out to work or to college or just out to go shopping- do you think people are going to think you are going around naked or saying “Well- they are wearing clothes – so they aren’t naked-“? If you can see through the clothes, you are seeing them naked. He’s not saying he can’t see the clothes- he’s saying he sees them as naked because he is seeing through the “clothes”. XD For all the reasons it matters- Phil wouldn’t say “I see you as wearing sheer clothing” or “To my eyes your clothes are at 20% opacity!” XD
Did his power learn to not dismiss clothing since the last incident? I vaguely remember some magic clothes dissapearing at one juncture. Nice lore drop for a shapeshifter though. Interesting implications given Yuki can shapeshift and it hasn’t come up with her. So is multifaceted form a by product of Inari’s self conception. Since spirits are meta-physical? I wonder if Yuki looks like a snowflake when Phil squints? That’d be super adorable.
on the clothes thing, I don’t think so. Once Phil made it clear to everyone around him that he could see through illusion-based clothing, nobody who knew him was willing to wear illusion-based clothing around him.
Additionally, I don’t think that it could reasonably learn to ignore illusion-clothing. Not because of anything particular to the clothing, but because being able to see through illusions is more a safety feature than a detriment. It’s even been beneficial to Phil a couple of times, so I sincerely doubt his magic is going to start having him see illusions normally simply because it’s inconvenient when the illusion just so happens to be clothing.
Well, nobody who knew him and didn’t want to tease him was willing to wear illusion-based clothing around him. I can think of two gals who might still be willing if they feel the urge to tease.
I must have been misrembering then. I’m sure there are other ways to flag it though if him and his magic start communicating.
Better start buying (or making, or stealing) actual clothes instead of conjuring them up, kiddo.
How does Yuki look like to Phil?
She was wearing mortal-made clothes since she showed up. Iirc, she commented on having to get them, since she otherwise just conjured clothes.
Fixed your spelling for ya- didn’t know I could use this new thing to edit peoples posts- not sure how i feel about that- XD But anywho- That will be addressed in the next comic page so I will leave that for then!
Yeah, I did say that Inari likely would WANT to be wearing actual clothes. I’m a little surprised that Phil hasn’t accidentally actually-stripped Inari naked.
