I know Hugo is probably just feeling that way because it’s Phil but I’ve also seen that the magic can be pretty angry when provoked so maybe not being able to talk is a blessing in disguise? We’ll see if the Null ever gets cranky once talking vs just trying to survive.
The thing is, Hugo has communicated with his element. It’s just that Earth communicates slowly, and without wanting to rush. Also, Earth has initiated communication with him, he just wasn’t able to retain the information it wanted.
…possibly because that information wasn’t for Hugo, but instead was for Elemental Null (not Phil), with Hugo only receiving it to work as a transitionary pathway for the communication.
First panel, “assimiliated” should probably be “acclimated”
Also, that last sentence in the second panel feels a little squirrelly. Might just be Yuki being intended as an ESL. “Now, what are you not saying?” just seems odd as a term.

You might be right about “assimiliated”, but I think “adapted” would be even better than “acclimated”.
In this context, they’re synonyms.
Phil’s magic is still incredibly young, so it’s probably still trying to find ways to “speak” properly to Phil, til then, memories~
