Pretty sure the staff is still heavy, PHIL just isn’t affected by it. So if he’s holding the thing and someone tries to lift him, they’d have to lift both Phil AND that 10-ton weight it has. Only thing Phil brings in is the fact that he can move the thing without needing two crane lifts for the job.
The Ship needs to be able to carry it on it’s own without Phil in a situation where it needs to be moved without Phil for whatever reason. Also, it’s rather difficult to put on an outfit while holding a 6 foot staff that if you hit anything with it- you might tear the ship apart. Imagine Phil with it in his lap, and he nods off and drops it. It’s over an hour long flight, and no in flight movie. 😛

Well the ships are mostly used by android girls that can just watch movies or browse the web from anywhere so. Why waste the weight? Especially when this is one of the few ships that doesnt run completely off of Magic.
