That wasn’t just the book, that was several books she’s throwing.

Thanks for the update!

Books… I’d say the encyclopedia of rules of law and order. That’s one biiiiiiiiiiig book that has every law on feds and states it would take a forklift to just lift the damn thing and it does exist in irl.

My understanding is that judges now get an electronic version instead of the printed volumes. There are also online libraries that have all this information. Each state publishes its own version of the legal code, and some of them may use printed volumes.

Pardon my ignorance… What are Rico and P.I.I. in this context?

Ryan

Rico is racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations. basically it’s so that the leaders of criminal organizations can be charged with their organizations crimes despite not directly participating.

P.i.i. is personally identifiable information. It’s stuff like social security numbers

Aaah good ol Rico. There’s a few videos on YouTube by Legal Eagle that go over it and it’s history if you’ve got the time and interest.

Unsecured and probably unencrypted, very poor judgement. Basically giving the Feds a layup for their investigation, especially when the Feds have some “very advanced” help with digging up dirt on the target of their investigation.

And foolishness part 2: not lawyering up immediately upon arrest! Just kept carrying on like the entitled Karen she is!
And seriously if you are ever arrested that is step one: shut your mouth and get an attorney asap!

many of those who think they did nothing wrong won’t lawyer up right away, and by the time they do it looks more like them admitting guilt

Yep. That’s why the Miranda Act exists. To advise suspects under arrest TO USE THEIR RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT. If they insist on flapping their gums, anything and everything they say can and will be used against them in court.

It isn’t the right she is having problem with, but the capacity. The way she sees it, she did nothing wrong. Why would she need to lawyer up?

Unsecured app and probably inviting critical journalists to oversee the ongoing proceedings. And then doubling down with a conspiracy theory why that happened and how it wasn’t their fault. Well, it happens a lot. 😎

No buts:

“This subset of media ethics is known as journalism’s professional “code of ethics” and the “canons of journalism”.[1] The basic codes and canons commonly appear in statements by professional journalism associations and individual print, broadcast, and online news organizations. There are around 400 codes covering journalistic work around the world.” – Wikipedia

“Some critics (termed political realists) argue that ethics has no place in politics.” – Wikipedia

As to ‘jury of peers’, try to exclude other criminals. Would American jury system still exist?
The ‘American Way’ seems to contradict ‘Truth and Justice’. apologes Kal-El.

@Kevin: Exactly. To par lies, mainstream media had to invent and implement ethic guidelines. So did the jurisdictions. (And politicians did not.) Are you trying to strawman the issue of throwing shade on journalism, which is a necessary critical overview on society!?

[There is a long discussion to be had on a nation that allow guns to be the largetst cause of death among its children, that jails such a large proportion of its population of mainly poor people, and that allows the state to murder (in some cases) for retribution. That’s why I didn’t stay with my cushy job in US, being a US citizen was morally problematic for me. But that is not at issue here.]

There are around 400 codes globally and we should think journalists doesn’t fancy their ethical standards!? I have a bridge in San Francisco you may fancy …

The US legal code alone has thousands of rules that people must follow, and yet we have overcrowded cells because people just can’t be bothered, including those people who actually write the laws. So, about that bridge, would you be interested in swapping with the one in Boston Bay? I hear it looks lovely this time of year.

That strawman on main stream media and now jurisdictions, *who also implements ethical guidelines* while politicians do not,. is not at issue here.

But as I responded to Kevin, “there is a long discussion to be had on a nation that allow guns to be the largest cause of death among its children, that jails such a large proportion of its population of mainly poor people, and that allows the state to murder (in some cases) for retribution.” As for causes, the lack of free education, social medicine, the influence of morally problematic religion, et cetera is what differs between US and Europe, where these things do not happen to the same extent. Don’t blame the rest of us for your shortcomings or inability to see why they persist.

The bridge in San Francisco I want to sell is dirt cheap. Are you still interested?

I forgot, I learned this earlier in the week: The social environment in US is so poor that statistics tell us the richest in US has a life expectancy that is on par *with the poorest in Europe* (or perhaps it was a specific European nation it compared with, I can’t find it right now). Despite the amount of medicine and research available in US, it can’t make you live long and healthy.

That is what lack of social medicine et cetera gives you.

If politicians had an ethical standards board they weren’t in complete control over (hey, an example of why politics is so corrupt. Even if a body is created to prevent corruption, will be designed to be at the mercy of the politicians it is supposed to LOOK like it’s regulating), you still need to get in front of the basics of “every rich bugger wants to corrupt the system for their personal benefit” and “Politicians who lie and ignore their promises find it easy to lead people by the nose, while the honest Politicians are ignored or forgotten”.

Sounds liek the only ‘help’ she could possiably give them is and a full written confession and pleading guilty, which by the sounds of it the don’t need and probably don’t particularly want as it *might* endup reducing her sentence.

That does not conflict with what The Aussie Bloke said.

“Start of an investigation” == “We have probable cause to look deeper into your activities to determine whether or not there is enough evidence of criminal activity for a court case.”

“End of one” == “We already looked into your activities, found all the evidence we need for the court case, and are ready to press charges and present the case to the court.”

The gist of what TAB seems to have been getting at was that conveying that they hadn’t only just discovered scuttlebutt about the crimes that Rayne just listed as a result of this detention, but rather that she’s being detained because they’re ready to press charges on them.
