If what went wrong wasn’t his fault. His presence breaking magic as well as the shift in the local spirits as they avoid him. He very well could have caused that
Interesting thing here was that the shrine maiden could see it too. She likely has more than a little potential of her own.
I wonder, though, if the evil spirit was possessing another (like in the shrine she’s dedicated to)? If so, Phil could have a new, likely both thankful and wary, friend! Well, two. The shrine maiden is likely going to see something about him too.
