There is no way that Phil doesn’t compare this to using summon planar ally to call a Modron is there? The large central eye and much more mechanical appearance made my mind IMMEDIATELY jump to Modrons.
Kinda close- I did want to use a D&D inspired creature for this (as it fits very well for a Celestial wanted for this situation too) but this one in particular was loosely based on the Marut, one of the Inevitable beings who’s history is either they were created by Primus from Mechanus (where Modrons are from and made) or Mystra created them herself to guard the fundamental forces of the universe mostly from her own domain of magic- some lore says they worked together or they each created their own to do effectively the same thing. I don’t think there is an official answer yet on that but it’s very D&D to have 2 answers that are both right. The design for the newer version of the Marut has the eye and looks like a giant mech. It’s also absolutely terrifying, seeing as it doesnt need to roll to hit- it just- always hits, and it also does 60 flat force damage… and can attack twice.
Well there’s another big danger to the Outsiders, apparently being there long enough allows them to build up a resistance to local magics.
….so…. is Phil immune to magic from other worlds?
no, but he develops new immunities very quickly
it has been discussed during the goblin lord arc where that outsider managed to illusion him briefly before he shook it off and his magic started to disintegrate the monster
HIGHLY resistant. The last time a new type of Outsider met Phil, it was able to hit him with an illusion of him being stabbed through the chest, and he said it felt real- didn’t give him so much as a nosebleed physically, and in the next minute Phil stopped being affected by anything it used, and he was able to pass his hand through it casually to kill it (it did goop him though lmao). That scene also showed us that Outsiders can feel fear XD
He’s Much stronger now though- him negating the non magical force from a near railgun level pneumatic canon is a crazy flex. They only didn’t use a rail gun because it took too much power and would destroy itself firing.
Sage. If the next series of comics is them throwing everything they can at it but the world ends because Phil can’t get there in time, we’re gonna have words.
Phil hasn’t even learned how to use the other Null Artifacts! (unless I’m misremembering that there were at least three- it’s been a while!)

The whip, whose crack disrupts magic. Lien discovered this when she cracked the whip and her orchalcum core was shut down for a period.
Technically they have 4 null artifacts. The sword, staff, and whip were found in the same place, while the book was found elsewhere and is intelligent and talks… a lot.
