First off- I want to shout out Haylo, for managing to guess a little bit about this part coming up XD – Their comment wasn’t 100% correct as will be explained in the next page, but simply guessing I was going to do the ‘becomes small’ trope when they have lost a lot of power was a really good guess! When I first read it I was like “Wow- I can’t believe someone nailed that part this early!” XD

I am betting it was more a case of the Outsider using Inari like a kitsune smoothie. There’s just not so much kitsune left in the cup anymore. But, it’s okay—Mum’s here now.
I wonder just how much of inari’s base power is intact. I am curious if what happened was more akin to a simple power drain, or if it was more like an amputation and what we see is what’s left of inari after the corruption was cut away? Excited to find out ether way!
….. you know after that last flash back to when Phil was a kid exclaiming how much he loved magic, it only just hit me just how ironic that his power is basically the instant delete button for anything magic.
If his power grows to have personality like the magi elementals, at least it will have Phil as a great influence on it!
Because in a universe that seems to literally run on magic like this one, the full power null aspect would basically be the equivalent of thanos with the full infinity gauntlet in terms of power.
assuming magic has to somewhat follow Conservation of Energy, any magic or kinetic energy that his null force blocks or nullifies has to go somewhere, likely his Null power absorbs it, and as it absorbs more it likely grows more powerful,
It also seems to have a capability to learn and discriminate what magic it affects (for instance the magi-girl-bots don’t just shut down on contact with him), I would surmise there will be a point when Phil (or the next Null) can communicate directly with the Null force and better focus it’s power (you know Phil wants that power-armour suit)

That would be a great spell, especially after a Phil.
I think we all assumed there would be side effects to the possession and these ones generally make sense. Thankfully Inari was a fairly mutable entity already (read Phil’s difficulty looking at them earlier due to form stacking) so it probably won’t be that big of issue to adapt to the form and I wouldn’t be surprised if Yuki does something to help with the power loss (either funneling magic to Inari or acting as a proxy of sorts for certain responsibilities) since she’s already on Earth to liason with Phil.
I also forsee Yuki taking blatant advantage of Inari reverting to a child-like state to teat them like a kid again to her amusement and Inari’s annoyance.
So… magical milk for the Kitsune child?
What if it goes the other way? What if he becomes a kitsune of the Null? Rather than using magic, he now has a small shard of what Phil used.
Could be a neat twist.
