I am … very unsure as to what this … creature might be. The anatomy looks partially backwards, which makes me suppose it’s some sort of rakshasa, but then again … probably not?

And only now does it occur to me it might just have a neck like an owl.
If ya notice the arms- all of it’s joints are similar to an owl’s neck… It can spin all of it’s joints 360. It’s design is somewhat unique though. So I wouldn’t expect anyone to know what it is based on its visual apperance.
Did that thing really think Inari’s mother would have left her defenseless son guarded by someone who didn’t have the capability to do the job?
It does appear to have some blind spots in its thought process – though we don’t know whether it was aware of Yuki’s existence.
Can confirm- it has no idea Yuki is on Earth, in fact, it doesn’t know Yuki is Inari’s mother at all… Inari themself is well known enough that most don’t even think about their family. Inari is not defined as “the child of” by pretty much anyone, unlike how Hercules is known as “the son of Zeus”. This creature sensed the massive dispersal of Inari’s magic and thought it could take advantage.
