Comic has been edited to hopefully make it more obvious the magic runes are in front of her- not behind her leading people to think Inari got hit rather than showing her learning to manipulate the magic to learn from it. Only a couple of runes were visibly over her hair- and they were pretty faded so I get the confusion. Moved it more over and added a color indicating set of runes to help XD
I guess I need to edit this to make it a bit clearer so people don’t come to that conclusion. The rune’s gathering next to her are not Inari changing- they are actually in front of Kate- I’ve got an idea for what I can do to help people get the general idea, it will take a few minutes.
You know. Unless that creature was attempting to turn Kate into a snake-head fish (which can briefly walk on dry land due to having vestigial lungs), trying to turn Kate into a fish is attempted murder, because fish cannot breathe on dry land and there’s no readily available source of water in which Inari can place Fish-Kate in a timely manner.
That creature deserves a lot worse than a bit of humiliation…
Dude, remember they are currently on a boat, even if they are in Kate and Phills room that still only leaves a window between them and a body of water, less if they are still up on the deck.
Admittedly that doesn’t mean the thing would have cared about tossing her out to keep her alive.
That would be dependent on what kind of fish they turned Kate into. If Kate got turned into a freshwater fish, that would still be lethal transformation with that action.
From what I can tell, the Servant of Inari primarily wanted to distract Kate long enough that she lost control over her binding spell, and give her a good scare (until she resisted it’s power). If she had turned into a fish, I suspect she likely would have been turned back after a few dozen seconds.
I suspect that the spell has a verbal component to make casting easier, which is why “Turn into a fish” was repeated so much. By partially bypassing their target’s natural defenses through having words cause their target instinctively imagining what they can turn into, there would be a certain amount of tactic approval to the transformation. Thereby making the spell easier to cast and giving it an obvious weak-point that most people can’t actually exploit.
I think also the turning the head might be a component of the magic slinging here. Like one of those hypno disks.

It’s interesting to think how resilient chimeras are to magical transformation. I don’t know if the mechanics for why that is was ever mentioned, but I have to guess.
Seeing as they were transformed by the forced opening of the Magi of Fires locked magic box, the transformation itself is super charged continuously maintaining the current for and rejecting any other transformation. I suppose the boxes might have been made with a bit of the Nulls particular magic, so another possibility might be that they might have a bit of Null power shielding them after the transformation.
Being real, I’m not to sure if any of those are accurate assumptions on my part.
Nanny Kate? =_= Turn around…

That STILL would have been hilarious.
“Kate…? Why does the goldfish have a foxtail and a sour look on it’s face…?”
The faces on this creature have just been the best lately. I am loving all the detail that goes into it.
Kate shows what she has learned, and turn the servant into a herring.
Guess we’ll all have to start calling him ‘Red”.
It worked on Inari…….

Thanks for the clarification
The spell is not the only one she is breaking …
GO FISH.
…, though, …

That is not a servant of Inari…
So….. Kate gonna throw the fish transformation right back at it? Or maybe she will choose a different form?
I vote for turning it into snake. A harmless one, like a garder snake. Garden snake?….I hope you get what I mean.
