Now there’s a namedrop. The question is, does Yuki know her first-hand?
I’m going to assume that she does given the aggressiveness of her stance and the certainty of her actions. If Yuki didn’t know Amaterasu then I think she’d approach this with a bit more caution to NOT piss off the head of her home pantheon. Then again it could be a case of some sort of divine pressure being absent. That does kind of make sense but if we assume Yuki’s celestial status means she’s more benevolent and thus one of the Zenko Kitsune who served Inari which (assuming 9 tails means high ranked servant) could have had her interact with the Amatsukami which Amaterasu heads.
Still kinda curious if Takamagahara overlaps with the Celestial realm given both are heavenly realms for ascended beings.
I’d say good odds yes. And probably has her on ‘speed dial’.
In other words, braid-boy: you and your boss are about to get spanked.
If boobs could kill …
I mean…would it really be the worst way to go?
Smothering, and Yuki’s are definitely big enough to pull that off!

It amuses me that what is essentially a deluded warlock (in D&D-terms) has been swanning about, thinking he was an exorcist.
It can be a fun build in pen and paper games, too. The best time I ever had playing a paladin was with them worshiping what they thought was a noble and good god—but was actually lawful evil deity who was planning everything to make my paladin fall, even if it took a few good deeds to get to the fun stuff.
To be fair, while it irks me that many fictional universes are pulling Warlocks from D&D as a reference. As I think there could be more useful sources of inspiration, rather than just reusing Warlocks over and over.
The idea of mystical Patrons supporting or levying deals with mortals, does have historical or at least mythological/fable prescidence.
Realistically or I suppose more accurately, hypothetically speaking, nothing precludes Warlocks from being exorcists. Or any profession for that matter. The difference mechanically speaking, between say a Cleric and a Paladin is functionally negligiable. Both are pulling powers from a higher or at least stronger spiritual being.
So long as he adheres to the functional and technical capacities of an excorcist, for all intents and purposes he is one.
The more interesting question is his Patron. There could be a lot of reasons for them to cosplay as Amaterasu. Perhaps a shead tail or imprint from a by gone era, manifesting as it’s own entity. Maybe a descendant of some sort? Or even someone whom just wishes to embody the traits of Amaterasu and become like them.
It’s actually a really interesting thought experiment. Granted due to narrativw power creep from Yuki, chances are they’re some small fry or some such. Villianous or otherwise.
While it’d be interesting to see Yuki get slapped here. (Sorry Yuki, super love your OC in and out of Yosh!) I don’t think that’d happen. It wouldn’t need to be a power battle either. But just like a small time pipe fox and a local spiritualist joining forces with the influx of magic to help manage order in the onset of a new magic age, due to the absence of the celestial realm, would be super interesting.
They technically, (poor suggestion on the exorcists part aside. Don’t you hate it when someone walks in on the worst part of a conversation?) have the moral high ground here. The Celestial realm has been hands off for waaay to long. Someone had to pick up the slack in their abscense.
It’d be nice to see Yuki pleasantly surprised by their reasoning and more specifically their competance. But I don’t think that’s going to happen.
‘Competent’ isn’t really a word I’d associate with braid-boy. His diplomatic skills are badly lacking.
You only say that because we know Kat. Realistically she was legitimately in the way. Yes between her and Phil they could easily swat the Surin. But we don’t accually know what that would look like in collateral damage
Especially if it started throwing large scale curses around.
Yes he was a poor diplomat. But realistically speaking they were in a foriegn country and he was and is legitimate law enforcement. They could have easily made the situation worse. At least from his perspective.
For us we know at best the Surin was the hostage. But without proper context it definitely looks like Phil and Kat were hostages. More relevant to us the surrounding civilians were hostages. We don’t know how far out was far enough. Or what a long lasting consequences of a battle would look like.
He doesn’t have to be pleasant to do his job. More over even if he is incompetent from the main cast perspective, he is likely more competent than most other canidates. The pool of talent for this stuff is super shallow. Even black ops from the rangers seem a little less prepared than him.
I understand the need for a narrative character like this. I just think it’d be interesting to see something deeper than a jobbing character.
Actually, it took me a bit but I realised a way in which Yuki is wrong. Specifically, the “Fake” never stated that they were Amaterasu, maybe not even calling themselves a God. If they just called themselves something like a Divine Spirit, or limited their position to that of a mere “House God”, then Yuki assumed more deception than what could have occurred in reality.
Pretty much. The character is and has been pretty mild. I’m interested to see where Sage goes with it.
