Inari is having a panic attack. He knows what he’s in for.

Okay, we may all think it’s funny that Inari defaulted to calling Yuki “mommy”. But just consider for a moment; Inari is a powerful being, worshiped as a god… and they’re this apprehensive of angering Yuki.
Just how stern a mother was she when Inari was growing up?
I mean, remember how old they both are, and how much discipline has changed since a hundred years ago, then acount for thousands of years. While nice and with the times, she most certainly used to be old fashioned.
She is also a spirit-fox. Foxes are not shy about disciplining unruly kits.

I was kinda hoping that Yuki wouldn’t immediately go for the ear but I guess when there’s the threat that they’ll just vanish(not that I think they’d do that to their mother)it’s probably the safest bet to go for. Also, Inari, really? Half-truths to your mother? You’d think he was actually a kit with that.
I think it’s just easier. And if she went for the scruff of his neck, like a parent cat does with kittens, it’s likely that he’ll turn into a fox form by instinct, meaning that this was the better decision.

The ear is grabbed, parental authority enforced! Never underestimate a mother’s ability to make you feel like you’re 5 years old again and you just got caught with your hand in the cookie jar!
It’s child abuse of course, but I hear that still happens.
“Despite the strong support for the Convention on the Rights of the Child, only a minority of countries in the world prohibit all corporal punishment of children. These are Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Norway, Romania, Sweden, Germany, Hungary, Ukraine and Austria.”
The most used convictions where I live is 2 years in prison.
It doesn’t surprise me in the least that Yuki takes as firm a hand as she does here. I’m willing to bet that Inari is not her only child (though he may be the only godly one) so Yuki probably has a fair bit of experience in herding rowdy kids and corralling mischief.
I’m torn on if Yuki is actually going to scold/lecture him or if she wants to spend time with him given the opportunity without bothering Phil/Kate and is playing a bit of a prank in letting Inari panic. Could really go either way at this point.
Ha! I said a similar thing as a reply to the comment at the top.

When mom grabs you by the ear, that’s as bad of being in trouble as hearing all three of your names.

I normally only have a comment per page but I just thought of this. I hope Phil gets to meet Inari and nerds out a little so Inari can understand that Phil is just a goof…that also just so happens to be capable of completely nullifying any magical attempt to prank him.
Doesn’t matter how tall they are or how powerful, mum will grab that ear and drag them off for a talk.
He’s just lucky she wasn’t wearing flipflops, if the chancla comes into play there’s always the public humiliation of a spanking.
And now I want to see an image of Yuki holding up a Flip flop and saying “I will send you to Jesus.”
Definitely some emotional damage coming…
He said “Mommy”
I understand the reflex.

Never had that problem, but then I never stuck my hand in the cookie jar.

Inari said just a couple comics ago that he is one of her children, meaning there are others
Kit kitsunes have the most practical rearing handles.
Their tails looks grab worthy too, but are not to be trusted if Yuki is anything to go by.
Inari is in trouble with mom.
how much depends on how their talk turns out.
oh no at least it wasn’t LA CHANCLA!
