They’re on the deck of a cruise ship. Yuki probably reached over and just grabbed one somebody left by their deck chair. Also pfffffft HA! You’d better start listening to your mama Inari!
Nice call back to Phil’s anti-magic ‘sounding’ like the stars.
That was a quick response from Inari. Too bad Yuki gets a bonus on her choice of weapon, La Chancla, due to being their mom. Not that Phil was in any danger, but the rest of the ship and passengers might’ve become collateral damage.

Is Phil making some joke that I’m too dense to understand? His second sentence isn’t making much sense to me: “I guess it makes sense you could!”
Protect Inari from their own idiocy. Attacking the Null is like taking up a broom against a railway locomotive and trying to parry their momentum.

Poor inari, first the ear tug and then bumping into phil and then on top of all the ultimate bad dog reference getting hit by yuki’s boob space storage slipper after inari tried to attack phil which i suspect was a instinct to survive after being surprised a person can casually slaughterer few celestial somehow didnt even make sound before he spoke.
My only question is who is yuki actually protecting inari from finishing that attack on phil or kate in off chance that inara was only caring about himself and throwing spells that my have radius explosion
Not just Kate, but a cruise ship full of innocent people in the middle of the ocean is not somplace you should be starting potentially epic level fights with powerfull and destructive spells without identifying if said fight is even needed first.

Inari’s thought process was probably
Embarrassed complaint
Someone talking to mom?
Oh S$&t crazy void being! Danger, Defend!
Ow my head!
Though most of the other mystical creatures can’t quite spot Phil so easily. Is this something to do with Inari’s divinity, descent, domains, or just how they typically run their powers? I’m kinda leaning towards Inari keeping a magical detection spell active at all times because they called Kate on her jewelry upon meeting but it could just be a passive perception they inherited or gained at some point.

If this is how magical beings percieve Phil, no wonder the Sujin panicked.

Something I don’t quite get is, the Null isn’t new. It existed before and traumatized the literal embodiments of Magic on earth. Celestials aside, How do these spirits NOT know about it?
This is something several people have been saying- But I’m not really sure why. How many nulls can you name, and how many people clearly know about them? Because if you take out the people around Phil, and the Magi- the answer is nearly zero. In terms of history- no one even knows who the first null was other than they were just a person murdered by magic. Then, the first real null was the one that helped to overthrow the Magi. After that- no null was known- and that was pre-history, until Phil. The Null isn’t new, but the null is by no means well known. No one even remembers the name of either of the nulls before, and one of them was seen as a hero at the time. The celestials freaked out when they first found out about him- and they found out with Phil.
Inari is an earth bound Celestial. Spending nearly all of their time on Earth, and having nothing to do with Phil until now.
i agree with you on this.
considering those with such powers in their history with out friends like Phil has made on the way of this story line, would show up in history as those without any thing happening to them .. as a “normal” person persay..
As you said, it would take a Mgic Incident and investigation to realise they were a ‘null’ at all
So are the Magi not as big of a deal as I thought? Because I thought they were mages possessed by the foundational embodiments of magic. Which, if some unknown entity managed to defeat them, I figured it would warrant an investigation of some kind, or are these spirits just not that old? I get why the Celestials might not know, since there’s more than just the earth and they wouldn’t know everything about every world.
The magi are effectively the most powerful sorta mortal spell casters on Earth. They are certainly a powerful force, and practically none of them are even at the level of power they would be had they practiced more at working with each other. Most human parts have treated those foundational forces of magic as mere tools, causing them to distrust and even hate their human tethers.
The “unknown entity” was created by all of the magics wish for freedom. They created the Null- manifested it to one day end the Magi. Eventually it sorta happens, not how they expected, as it teamed up with human mages that sought to seal away magic, weaking it and destroying the pre-history Magic era. Then thousands of years passed with no real passing on of most history. A few ancient orders, some old texts that somehow survived after their magical protection was gone, and a bunch of dead languages – families unwilling to give up the power they had sought to destroy others who remembered the history. So some tried to preserve it, some tried to preserve it only for themselves, and others tried to wipe it out completely. A mixture of successes and failures on all their parts lead to a very small number of references and magical beings that were aware of it all that still exist today.
Add to all that- the Magi never once ran into another null until magic was released again, and even then it was 10 years after that happened and Magi started dropping like flies.
Was there always a null and no one ever noticed because there was no magic? Or did the null power go away with the sealing of magic? Or does it not manifest every generation and just exists from time to time? That’s almost never been answered- although- Phil being the null before the release of magic is hinted at with his early introduction to Penpen being pre-Fire magic released. So -hey- one down right? XD
Sandal beats epic battle stance 10/10 times.
not just any sandal, Mom Sandal.
A human shaped object composed of darkness is rather intimidating. I suppose that would make some creatures irrational.
Mama whipped the sandal out. We’re done.

She has a pocket dimensional storage between her boobs, almost certainly came from it.
Either works
I’m willing to bet she keeps a few in there for just such an occasion.

Maybe short for “it makes sense you could get on board, even without a ticket”?
Well Yuki can fly and teleport so it just makes sense that she could be on the ship if ever and whenever she wanted to be.
Inari should not be scared of The Null.
Mommy is here to protect him.
Or not.

It is one thing to know about then null.
It is another to meet it face to face.
Ok, Phil legitimately looks terrifying in this one
But he’s smiling! 😀
That is when he is most terrifying.
I assume she keeps a sandal and possibly a squirt bottle of water in her item bag, in case of wayward offspring…
He’s just a cheery little all-consuming void.
Don’t get him angry.
