Another difference is that Hue moved the dirt, probably. In this case it was annihilated.
Exactly, one was manipulated with “Earth Bending” This one was just blown into a crater.
I mean technically it still just moved right? Blasts make craters because the material is blown apart, not turned into moonlight. This was just more violently done
@ 4Rory: There’s a difference between “Dug a hole” and “Caused an explosion”. Just because the initiating force was magical, doesn’t mean that the end result is.
To clarify, Hue likely infused magic into the dirt to move it, and Phil’s “Null” pseudo-element likely used that earth-magic infusion to pull the dirt back. Magic to make a hole, and undoing that magic to restore the hole.
Meanwhile, the Celestial used magic to create explosions. All of the magic was in the force created, not in the movement of the dirt. The hole is formed from the indirect usage of magic, and thus is unaffected by Phil being a Null. If he could fix that hole by being a Null, it is conceivably possible for Phil to similarly fix a hole made by explosives, despite the explosives having no magic in them at all.
It’s not like Phil would’ve been hurt had he tumbled down into the hole. Just would have caused the officers a massive amount of annoyance as they go fetch rope and rescue gear.

Honestly I don’t know what she’s so worried about, not like falling in the hole or anything in said hole is going to hurt him. Last I checked not being able to breathe was rapidly being removed as a “weakness.”
Also noting Yuki said Phil would be in top 4 gods if he had complete control of his power, but apparently has underestimated what those limits are. Or underestimates his control, which is low key crazy considering she saw him no sell a dangerously powerful non-magic pneumatic canon, and this latest bit.
Phil being trapped down in the hole for hours would be a problem, especially since she can’t just fly or teleport him out. And Phil falling into that hole would absolutely trap him in that hole for hours, unless Yuki could find a way to make a stone-ladder for him.
Also, Phil has no direct control over his power, and there’s an implication that the original elements (Fire, Water, Earth & Power) purposefully connected to form “Null” as their ‘child’, implying that, if he had full control over his magical element, Phil would be close to being a Magi of at least 4 elements, if not all elements. And, since the Magi, or at least the Elemental Spirits they’re bound to, are Mid-level Gods, and Phil’s “Null” is basically specialised in controlling other’s Magic…
She needs someone to compile their previous research and experiment logs for her to read. I suspect neither of them even know about the sniper rifle incident.
Also, your elemental spirit is TIRED.
Maybe Josephus’s incorrect release of his element (Fire) caused uncontrolled or poorly controlled magic to “touch” nearly everything?
